About this speaker
Fernando Velasco was born in La Paz, Bolivia in 1943. He competed in soccer, tennis, and gymnastics through college, and in 1972 became a full-time tennis professional. His first Director position was at the University Club in Dallas, and later Brookhaven Country Club. The last 30 years he was at the Landings in Savannah GA and Boca Pointe Country Club in FL. 2001 brought him back to Texas at the Circle C Tennis Club.
Fernando has too many awards to list, but here are a few. In 1976, he was the first recipient of the USPTA National "Pro of the Year." In 1995, he was inducted into the USPTA Midwest Division Hall of Fame and was selected as the Pro of the Year by the USPTA Southern Division. In 2004, he was the Pro of the Year for the Texas Division. 2012 he was awarded the USPTA National Manager of the Year for Small Facility. He has been player of the year in numerous senior-age divisions. In 2017 he received the “USPTA George Bacso Lifetime Achievement Award” and the “2017 Tennis Industry USPTA Member of the Year. He is also one of 12 that are Master Professionals in both organizations.
